This scenario shows why it is so important to make the distinction that "the data is not the resource", and "RDF statement is about the resource, not the data". Of course, sometimes you can treat the data as a resource by assigning URIs to locations within a document or whatever, but this is not the norm, and this scenario makes it all the more important to be clear about the distinction between data and resource, IMO.
