You merely need some way of distinguishing assertions about > the doctor from assertions about *documents* that are about the doctor. Well, this is the crux of it. I strongly disagree with you here, and everything else we're saying on this matter is just a variation on this disagreement. Perhaps one problem is that I'm not really into the Semantic Web. I basically use RDF as a sort of mulidimentsional DBMS (sort of a more flexible Pick). I have had plenty of opportunity to connect multiple ontologies, but I don't build "Web"s. I'm not that ambitious. I have never seen the problems that TM folks talk about in "map/territory" speeches in individual systems. Nor have I seen such problems when connecting separately designed systems. Perhaps it takes more orders of magnitude of connectivity before such problems become tangible, but I have a feeling that *computer resource* scalability will become a problem in such systems far before ontological "scalability". Given that these supposed problems seem so improbable in practice, I'm certainly not going to put myself through a model as complex as that of TM,. I just can't find that it's demonstrably necessary. The funny thing in all these is that most practical applications of TM I've heard of have been closed systems, so I'm not sure why designers of those systems feel they need to deal with the complexity. But again, to each his own. -- Uche Ogbuji Fourthought, Inc. http://uche.ogbuji.net http://4Suite.org http://fourthought.com The open office file format - http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/xml/librar y/x-think15/ Python Generators + DOM - http://www.xml.com/pub/a/2003/01/08/py-xml.html 4Suite Repository Features - https://www6.software.ibm.com/reg/devworks/dw-x4su ite5-i/ XML class warfare - http://www.adtmag.com/article.asp?id=6965
