After several months I'm proud to announce that version 0.8 of the eXist Open 
Source XML Database has been finally released and is available for download 
at http://exist-db.org.

The most important changes are:  The database engine may now run either as a 
stand-alone server process, embedded into an application, or inside a servlet 
context. Applications built with eXist may thus be distributed as a single 
.war file. The XML:DB API implementation supports embedded as well as remote 
access to the database. Additional changes include a new SOAP interface, 
WebDAV integration (using Xincon), performance improvements, and many 
bugfixes.
