Normally, I don't see selfishness as a virtue.  (Sorry, Ayn Rand.)

However, Edd Dumbill's posted a piece on XML.com this week which I think
makes appropriate use of a kind of selfishness I strongly encourage, and
sometimes call "thinking for yourself".

Even if, perhaps especially if, you disagree violently with the
conclusions of the article, it's well worth a read:
