Matt AdamsSubject: How to change decimal grouping delimiters from "," to "." ???
Author: Matt Adams
Date: 13 Jul 2004 03:48 PM
Hello,

I would like to use another decimal grouping syntax than the default.
As far as I noticed the default is:

123,456,789.01

However, I have XML documents containing amounts/values written in the format

123.456.789,01
or
123456789,01

Where can I change the used delimiter settings in StylusStudio?
I got error similar to:
file:///d:/temp/mydoc.xml:28,92: Error parsing '0,28' as decimal datatype.
The element: '{http://www.foo.com}blah' has an invalid value according to its data type.

Please tell me the exact menu and submenu because I did not found a suitable
option in all the menus.

Thank you
Matt

Hi Matt,
XML Schema only allows the "." as the decimal separator; for instance,
this is what the specs say about the lexical representation of a
xs:decimal instance:

decimal has a lexical representation consisting of a finite-length
sequence of decimal digits (#x30-#x39) separated by a period as a
decimal indicator. [...] An optional leading sign is allowed.
If the sign is omitted, "+" is assumed. Leading and trailing zeroes
are optional. If the fractional part is zero, the period and following
zero(es) can be omitted.
For example: -1.23, 12678967.543233, +100000.00, 210.

So, the XML file must use this format; if you want to generate output
using a specific regional setting, you have to write the XSLT that,
by using [xsl:number format=""], converts the number into the
desidered text.

Hope this helps,
Alberto
