John TuckerSubject: Level of WYSIWYG Complexity supported?
Author: John Tucker

G'Day Minollo,

I'm hoping you can help me, I'm evaluating Stylus Studio with a view to propose it as a solution we have been looking for to improve a business process of mail merging.

However every time I copy a document used in word into the WYSIWYG section then either preview it or swap to the XSLT tab I get a message saying an unrecoverable error has occurred. I have narrowed it down to the tables that are being transposed and I'm guessing they may not be usable?

Does this product support such situations? I was hoping it would be possible to take the majority of our 1000+ docs and migrate them across to an XML/HTML based solution.

I noticed in the tr properties of the inserted table the following - mso-yfti-irow: 1; page-break-inside: avoid. That doesn't sound good and given my inexperience with this product and XSLT/XML I hope you can shed some light.

Our idea is to port our current documents across then include the tags we require from an XLM file and run things from a browser. If too much re-formatting is involved this software may not be our solution???

I look forward to any information you may be able to provide. The error occurs straight after the copy of the word data.

Thanks in anticipation,
John T.

John,
if I understand correctly what you are trying to do, you are
copy&pasting documents from WinWord into the Stylus wysiwyg canvas, right?

If that's the case, that scenario is not part of the use cases we currently
support in XSLT wysiwyg; but we are surely interested in understanding why
that's failing. It might well be a matter of filtering some information
that the IE control used in the wysiwyg canvas doesn't like.

We'll play with the testcase you posted and let you know as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Minollo

Minollo, you are correct, the look of the pasted data from word includes all the appropriate formatting and I thought great this must be possible! It's just when I check the output or go to view the XSLT code that the software crashes.

I guess just given the fact that it looks correct got me thinking it was something supported.

Thanks, I look forward to hearing any pointers you may like to make. Just as a side issue, I converted everything from word into text and pasted the text into Stylus this allowed me to save the work, preview it and see the XSLT etc. I then began to re-apply some of the required formatting, text sizes and tables etc. When I then tried to save it I again got the original error message??? I wonder if it's a combination of tables and fonts?

I look forward to any further information as I can see this tool as being the one that will solve our business problems,

Regards,
John T.

There is a problem when tables are created as a result of copy&paste; we
have fixed that problem, and we are going to spin an updated build soon,
before the end of this week.

Thanks,
Minollo

Thanks Minollo,

Will I have access to the update during the evaluation period to test the changes further?

If so I look forward to it with much anticipation,

Cheers,
John T.
