In my previous question I asked whether I could use the DataDirect API and .conv files to programatically go from a predefined flat file format to XML ( http://www.stylusstudio.com/SSDN/default.asp?action=9&read=8777&fid=23 ). Now, I need to do the reverse as well. We deliver files to our customers and need to be able to do so in a flat file format they've described to us (encapsulated in a .conv file). Can we convert an XML file to an arbitrary flat file?

If you use a conversion defined through a .conv file you cannot go back from XML to flat file, unless you write an XSLT stylesheet to generate it piece by piece.
If you are using a "standard" converter, it's enough to convert the XML document into another XML following the proper schema, then feed it into the same converter engine.
