Subject:How to ouput a real XLS Author:Jean HERBIERE Date:08 Feb 2007 09:42 PM
Hi,
I am using XML Stylus to edit a xsl file to transform a xml file to a excel file.
The font of the final spreadsheet is fine, all my data is fine, but I realized my file was too big. Even if in window it appears like an Excel file when I open it and click "Save As" the file is named
"jojo.xls"
under the format XML Spreadsheet(*.xml)
and not
jojo.xls
under the format
Microsoft Office Excel Workbook(*.xls).
If then I save it in under the format, Microsoft Office Excel Workbook(*.xls), the file obtains the good format and has a acceptable size( five time smaller).
I would like to know if there is a option in stylus to activate or even a header to put in the xsl to force the transformation directly until the format (*.xls).
Thank you,
Jean

Hi Jean,
XSLT stylesheet can only write textual formats, and the .xls file format is a binary one, so you cannot generate it directly. You have keep writing the XML version or switch to a SYLK file (that is more compact when you are not interested in the formatting of the cells).
