I have seen this kind of problems with the GIS 3.1. The best way to resolve this
issue is making changes to translator.properties.in file.
Changes are adding use byte for each map it uses and also on both input and
output side of the map should have FREE FORMAT and also use the map encoding

Hi Carl,
I would'nt bother about the input type, but I would try output Encoding type
as ISO8859_1 (ISO8859_1). That worked fine for me for Umlaut characters.
Also, on the map input, open the properties tab, and you could see Encoding
where yoiu can select the type of Encoding you want to.

We all had to start from somewhere, if you want to make your entry into EDI,
I recommend you get an ENTRY LEVEL (means 0 or close to 0 experience) mapper
job and from there build your way up.
How did you do "a lot of maps" in Gentran if you do not know what X12 is?
You would also know as

I would think if you've done a lot of mapping that you'd know about the
various qualifiers. How do you create a map if you don't know what
you're mapping or why?

When you send an ip packet, there is a source port AND a destination port on
just your "outbound" data. A change in terminology probably would have
clarified things for everyone. :)

And the fact that the NTE does not appear any longer in the 850 was a result
of several DM's I submitted to X12 in the early 1990's which attempted to
delete all NTE segments in all transaction sets in which it occurred. The
DM's were approved for all but a small one or two transaction sets - I can

Well, let me see if I can summarize my 15+ years of experience in EDI into a
nice neat nugget you can use to call yourself and EDI expert:
EDI is the transfer of not-so-standards-based data, between entities that
pretend to be cooperating.
An EDI tool, like GENTRAN, is then used to convert that dat

We have a new app that includes an EDI translator. You must use it to
get EDI data in and out.
Problem is, it's a bit squirrelly.
What EDI mappers should we check out to serve as a front end? Don't want
to spend too much.

Hey Earl:
You may be right for the AS2 software you use,
however, for some AS2 software, you configure both
ends of the addressing when setting up a trading partner
relationship.
In other words, the sending and receiving ports can be different.
i.e. I tell Walmart to send to http://www.vendorxxx

I think this is an excellent thread. There are of
course no apples to apples comparisons, but this is
pretty good metric. I also know for every huge EDI
company there are hundreds of smaller ones who won't
ever approach.
My current project is at one of the aforementioned big
companies, (a Lilly

You're right. I got interested in this 10 years or so back when still at

this space. Since then, I've spoken to David, Jon Bosak and a number of
others from this list. I mostly scan/lurk here, but wanted to respo
