Hi,

maybe a silly question for this forum. Do I need a license for SequeLink Server product from Datadirect if I want to use it with Stylus studio for Accessing Relational Data as XML?

Thanks,

Jan

Hi Jan,

You don't need a license for Sequelink Socket Server
http://www.stylusstudio.com/configure_data_source.html

To which database you are trying to connect?

Thank you

No, Stylus Studio entitles you to use SequeLink Server; see your Stylus Studio readme file for information about how to download and install it (http://www.stylusstudio.com/component_downloads.html).

Thanks for response,

From http://www.stylusstudio.com/component_downloads.html:Stylus StudioŽ's DB-to-XML Editor to create an XML data source for a database that is not already supported by Stylus StudioŽ.

From the text it's clear. I can use it free in developement. Maybe the right question is: Can I use SequeLink Server in production free? Can you confirm this?

Let's say I develop with Stylus some DB-to-XML staff, Java source code etc. and I want to deploy it. As far as I know I need license for deployment adapters, right? Is the same valid for SequeLink Server?

From SequeLink Server license(when you try to install it):
A. The invoice you receive for the Software will identify which license type you have and how many users are permitted, if applicable. If the invoice fails to identify the type of license or number of users, the license granted herein shall be for one (1) "Authorized User" (as defined below). If you are unsure as to what type of license you have been granted, please contact DataDirect and DataDirect will identify the license type for you.

i. Single Authorized User: You may use the Software on a single computing machine which may be accessed by a single authorized user only. An authorized user is a single individual who has been designated to use the Software. The right to use the Software is not based on concurrent users, but instead on an actual "Authorized User" basis. You shall identify the person who is authorized to have access to the Software and provide that information to DataDirect.

ii. Multiple Authorized Users. If you have licensed the Software on a multiple Authorized User basis, in no event shall the number of persons authorized to have access to the Software exceed the number of Authorized Users identified by DataDirect on the invoice. You shall identify each person who is authorized to have access to the Software and provide that information to DataDirect.

iii. Server Basis. If you have licensed the Software on a Server basis, then a license fee must be paid for the maximum number of processors ("CPUs") utilized by the Server whether or not such access is simultaneous or consecutive. The Software may only be used by server-based applications running on that server accessed by other computers and may not be installed via file sharing on a local area network file system. A "Server" shall be defined as a logical computer with one or more CPUs on which the Software resides, along with the applications utilizing the Software, and which can be accessed by other computers. The term "Server" includes, but is not limited to, web servers, batch servers and application servers.

Well, your question explicitly mentioned Stylus Studio; so that's what we answered.

If you want to use it in production contexts, you'll need to purchase a SequeLink license; please contact DataDirect sales(http://www.datadirect.com/contactus/request_information/index.ssp) for details.
