Daniel MettlerSubject: Stylus/Excelon erased my XSL-file
Author: Daniel Mettler
Date: 17 Mar 2000 06:40 AM
hi there,

yeah, I encountered a strange behaviour of
Excelon/Stylus when I wanted to modify my
XSL-stylesheet with the following ENTITY-
definition:

]>

I placed this outside the -
tags, right after the -
tag. In Stylus I could save the modified
XSL as usual. But when I wanted to apply
this stylesheet to the XML-basefile I saw
that in Excelon-Explorer my xsl-file did not
exist anymore! I switched to Stylus, but
Stylus was frozen, I had to kill it with
CTRL-ALT-DEL. I restarted Stylus and tried
to reopen my stylesheet, but Stylus wrote on
the screen:

"Stylus encountered a problem reading the
file"

thus I can not open my stylesheet anymore, it does not exist in Excelon-Explorer anymore
too.

My questions:
What happened (anything to do with my ENTITY-
definition)?
Is there any chance to recover my stylesheet
(was quite a lot of work :-( )?

thanks

daniel

What version of Stylus and what version and build number of eXcelon are you running?

sorry, I forgot to mention:

Stylus: 1.04.02
eXcelon: 2.0 #BL80

BTW: Now I just downloaded the new version
of the eXcelon-package. Is this version 2.1
already or still a beta version? Actually I
wanted to download the new Stylus version
(2.0) only, but the link I received pointed
to a 100 MB file (I guess this is the whole
package incl. Stylus). Is this correct?

Daniel MettlerSubject: Addendum - Stylus/Excelon erased my XSL-file

urgh, ...I was stupid enough to retype the
whole xsl-sheet from new again. And -
surprise, surprise - I observed the same
strange behaviour: Stylus saved the file, then it froze and finally my file was gone
again.

Conclusion: this error is reproduce able and
I definitely need to have weekend now ;-)

A lot of bugs similar to what you're describing have been fixed for eXcelon 2.1 and Stylus 2.0. Both will be released early next week. If you continue to have problems, let us know.

In the mean time, you can try using   and removing your entity definition.
