Samuel C. YangSubject: Bug in IE Preview?
Author: Samuel C. Yang

[In this message, I use "{" to replace the less-than character, and "}" to replace the greater-than character, since your Post web page otherwise deletes the entire HTML tag that I'm trying to write. Very annoying!]

I'm seeing a lot of unexpected "{/SPAN}" tags (with no matching start tags) when I try to preview generated HTML.

LotusXSL 0.18.3 does not have any such problem, and my XSL is not trying to generate those end tags.

The "HTML text" pane in Stylus looks normal and does not show the extra "{/SPAN}" tags, so I decided to look in the temporary HTML file that gets generated in the preview directory, and it shows the extra "{/SPAN}" tags and also a lot of extra "S_" attributes all over the place.

I'm guessing that the extra tags and attributes are used internally by Stylus, and are supposed to be stripped off when sending the HTML to the browser to be previewed (since they don't show up in the "HTML text" pane). If so, there's a bug in that the extra "{/SPAN}" tags are not being stripped off.

Please help! We can't get any further with Stylus until this is resolved.

Hi,

Yes - you are correct. Stylus creates an "instrumented" output for its IE preview. The span tags and special attributes are used for these internal purposes. You are also correct that in some cases, span tags are unmatched. This is a bug that will be fixed in an upcoming service pack. If you look at the HTML text output, or if you choose to "preview in external browser", you will not encounter these tags.
