Paul HermansSubject: MSXSL 3.0 working outside studio buth not from wit
Author: Paul Hermans

When running from Stylus Studio 4.0 build 088 an XSLT transformation using MSXML 3.0 we do receive following error message:

"
External XSLT processing started...
Error occurred while creating MSXML COM objects. Code: 0xc0000073 Could not create the "Msxml2.FreeThreadedDOMDocument" object. Make sure that MSXML version 2.6 or greater is correctly installed on the machine. ...done
"

Although if I use from the command line MSXSL directly with option -u 3.0, indicating using MSXML 3.0, the same transformation works.

Paul,
from what you are reporting, I guess you installed the MSXSL parser in the
"side-by-side" functionality.
In this case, the MSXSL processor can only be found by using the versioned
CLSID (Msxml2.FreeThreadedDOMDocument.3.0) while the version independent
CLSID (Msxml2.FreeThreadedDOMDocument) is kept bound to the previous
version (usually 2.6).
Stylus Studio uses Msxml2.FreeThreadedDOMDocument (or
Msxml2.FreeThreadedDOMDocument.4.0 if you ask to use MSXSL 4.0) so that it
can use either 2.6 or 3.0; to fix this problem you should download and run
the utility that will make MSXSL 3.0 the default MSXSL processor on your PC
(you can download it from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?URL=/code/sample.asp?url=/msdn-files/027/001/469/msdncompositedoc.xml
)

Hope this helps,
Alberto

xmlinst -u

followed by
regsvr32 msxml3.0
regsvr32 msxml4.0

did work.

Thanks for the help.
