Eric RehmSubject: ID attribute generation from XSL?
Author: Eric Rehm

Not sure if this is a Stylus or eXcelon question.

My XML input file does not have id attributes for each document.

I would like my XML output file to have them. I have a DTD for my XML output file.

How do I specify and ID attribute in the XSL template for my document such that when I apply the style sheet, eXcelon will generate a unique id?

/eric rehm

Try creating a template in Stylus that matches the node you're trying to create an id for. You can then use:

Or, if you want a more generalized template:

(Here's a readable version of my previous posting.)

Try creating a template in Stylus that matches the node you're trying to create an id for. You can then use:

<foo id="{generate-id()}">
<xsl:apply-templates/>
</foo>

Or, if you want a more generalized template:

<xsl:element name="{name()}">
<xsl:attribute name="id">
<xsl:value-of select="generate-id()"/>
</xsl:attribute>

<xsl:apply-templates/>
</xsl:element>
