Great! The script works fine now! Many, many, thanks!!! I hope I can dig deeper into this XSL matter one day. But it's difficult in a one-man techwrite department. There's just not enough time. (Everybody praises AI. I don't think the variable is empty but to reference it in an attribute template you need e.g. <p class="toclev{$level}"> and not <p class="toclev{level}">
