Re: Side notes layout in xslt?
Thanks, I already have FOP in my pipeline, hence the xsl question. I am using
DITA as the source, so structure is good, just need to find the right elements
for the instructor content. I think there might be a plug-in out there for
LaTeX, but I've never used that approach.B Sent from my Verizon, Samsung

elephant in the room is of course LaTeX, which can easily handle theformatting
you describe. Outputting LaTeX source from XSLT isstraightforward if you have
a well-defined architecture as you seem to have.On 13/10/2021 08:55, dvint

createsmarginal notes longer than the paragraph[s] adjacent to which they
fall, you would need a macro in the LaTeX document class to ensure that thesame
amount of space was left blank in the other version. This problemhas long been
solved for facing-page translations, where matchingparagraphs must be kept
aligned across the central gutter, so the codeshould be reusable.> I suggested

would be a straight to pdf transformation. If the addition of no-cost software
is precluded then I think XSL-FO isyour only viable route.Peter
