Then wait and soon we will have thousands of standard functions giving us
more than one way of doing things and creating the problem of not even
being aware of and understanding all these functions, and how to decide
which of the possible solutions to choose.

As for this particular example, I suspect that building an XML document
incrementally from a sequence of single elements will have performance
implications -- similar to concatenating to a string many times.

I suspect that just constructing an XML document from a string
representation will be considerably faster than incrementally constructing
element by element and adding them to the resulting document -- not to
speak that such incremental construction is not needed, as we are
interested only in the final result.
