so long as the documentation is restricted to being at the top level (ie between templates not inside them) you don't need to strip it out, it will be ignored by the xslt engine.

Which is quiet a restriction David, go take a look at some of the templates you've written! They need internal documentation :-)

A single pass to strip documentation isn't exactly hard work.
