filters the sequence by the predicate.

yopu just want to combine two predicates with and so you don't use []
for that you can use () (or nothing, depending)

so not

[@name='rdb_status'and [value='Endangered' or value='Vulnerable']]  (which doesn't work - in XML Notepad).
 

just

[@name='rdb_status' and (value='Endangered' or value='Vulnerable')]

Or if you preferm rather than thinking of it as one complex filter and
writing it as above you can consider it as two filters, first on name
then value and write it as

[@name='rdb_status'][value='Endangered' or value='Vulnerable']


as the filters are applied left to right.
