for XSLt 1 (MSXML, libxslt) that is a non standard extension, but XSLT2
mandates that the user can set the initial mode. Of course XSLT2 spec
doesn't say how this is specified anyy more than it says how the
stylesheet or input document are specified, so the actual command line
is always going to be processor specific.

(in saxon the initial mode is set with the  -im  option on the command
line)
