Apologies to all on the list.  I posted an XSD question to an XSL list.

My problem arose when a transformation of ours couldn't complete because
of badly formatted input.  I then thought that a schema change would
help detect the problem before the transformation was performed.  So I
guess I was thinking XSL when I really wanted a schema change.

I'll have to try harder to keep all the various X* technologies straight
in my head!
