Karl,
At 03:12 PM 4/1/2005, you wrote: I'm interested in doing an identity transform on an external XML source when I load up a variable with it. The idea is, simplify the XML for later use. A good idea -- for XSLT 2.0. However, not too useful if I am back to xxxx:node-set() on my variable. Is this going to be the case? Is this always going to be the case if you don't use the select argument off of the variable decleration? Yes it is. XSLT 1.0 was deliberately designed like this, for reasons that were (it was eventually decided) not as compelling as the reasons people eventually demonstrated for wanting to process result trees ("temporary trees") in a single stylesheet run. That's why it's changing, and why you nevertheless have to use xxx:node-set() if you absolutely need the functionality in XSLT 1.0. Cheers, Wendell
