Certainly. If your key is constant (maybe that value really is always '1') there's really no point in indexing elements: you may as well just find them once and be done with it.


In this case, a global variable declaration could simply say

<xsl:variable name="BBB-children" select="//BBB[@t='1']/*"/>

... which amounts to exactly what was suggested by others in this thread.

You put the variable declaration at the top level so it is (a) evaluated only once even by a naive processor, and (b) it's accessible from any template.
