No the OP explictly said that he was using char refs with a spurious
space to make sure they get through bad mailers.

That may work in msxml but isn't guaranteed in general. Using an explict
line break is the same as using a reference to #10 and may produce any
kind of line ending the processor wants when used in text mode.
