IIRC, XSLT was originally just a small part of a tool to transform XML into
print, as is the 'transform' part of DSSSL.
 People looked at it, found other uses for it, and the pace has never slowed
since. I think it took the original developers by surprise, and I doubt
if we realise the extent to which its being used.
 I have heard suggestions that its use in machine to machine scenarios is
greater than in machine to person usage. I'd guess its use in XML to HTML
far outstrips basic document processing that is my main focus and use.
 I had some survey data done by someone on this list or xml-dev. I'll see
if I can find it.

It would be really scary to collate the uses for XSLT, 
(Even excepting 10 green bottles :-)
