Re:  Problem with Variables

			<xsl:when test="number(string-length($dd) =1)">
				<xsl:variable name="ddn" select="concat('0',$dd)"/>
			</xsl:when>

The scope of a variable binding is the containing element so in this
case the variabel goes out of scope at the /when immediately it s
defined.

You don't want to conditionally define a variable, you want to define a
variable with value depending on a condition, so not

<xsl:choose>
..
   <xsl:variable
...

but rather

<xsl:varable name="ddn">
  <xsl:choose>
   ......
