In the XSLT FAQ at www.dpawson.co.uk, see the following topics under XSLT
Questions and Answers:

 - Approaches
 - Best Practice
 - Push vs Pull

and maybe 

 - Modes
 - Special Techniques

...although not all of these things are going to apply to all stylesheets in
general.

One topic that is surprisingly not covered in the FAQ is the utility of
xsl:import for stylesheet modularisation. The FAQ just says to go look at the
spec. :)

IIRC, all of these things are covered in Michael Kay's XSLT Reference book.
