I wrote a small xsl to copy the nodes below a specified XPATH expression into new files. I wanted to eventually pass the XPATH in via a command line. XSLT 1.0 doesn't allow this as match= patterns in template rules and key tables must be fixed. Since a variable can't be used in 'template match="$path"' there must be another efficient way to do this. Not according to the Recommendation ... some vendors provide extensions, but I haven't used these, and I suspect they are not available at match= time, only at select= time. Currently, my work around doesn't compare the XPATH expression to the node successfully. Any hints? Have a stylesheet that writes a stylesheet ... pass your XPath in the command line to the stylesheet writer and then execute the written stylesheet. I hope this helps. ...................... Ken
