The error message "Invalid child node 'null' for a xsl:choose element" indicates that the scan for invalid child nodes aims at element nodes (and would display the elements name instead of a mysterious 'null' ).
The behaviour of Xalan and Saxon not to reject the whitespace text nodes is quite reasonable, and the next version of jd.xslt will adapt that behavior.
