Why on earth do you need to go into JavaScript to do this? My general rule is that the only reason to go into JavaScript is to get information that's not available any other way. It should never be necessary to access the source document using DOM interfaces, using XPath expressions is much easier. Especially if you're not completely familiar with the DOM.
