Are you stuck with this XML structure? It is not good.

If you can change the XML structure to something like (you will make your
life much easier):

<container>
    <para>jfdhgkjfdgjkadfg</para>
    <customers>
        <customer attr="word1" sex="her">
            <customerdata>jkkjjkg</customerdata>
        </customer>
        <customer attr="word1" sex="her">
            <customerdata>jkkjjkg</customerdata>
        </customer>
    </customers>
</container>
