Not true: in fact the spec explicitly states that for method="html", the
default is indent="yes". It defines the semantics essentially as "do what
you like provided the browser still shows it the same way".

Correct: everything to do with serialization falls into the "should" rather
than "must" category, in other words it is not a conformance issue. But
users are still entitled to express a preference for processors that do the
things they "should" do as well as the things they "must" do.
