delete your { } they should generate a syntax error from your xpath parser, although apparently don't on your system. test="/foo/bar != /foo/cow"> is syntactically correct, but might not be what you want. Using != one node sets almost never gives what anyone ever wants. I try to avoid using != at all. If there are more than one bar or crow element then the above will be true if _any_ bar is not equal to _any_ cow. compare with test="not(/foo/bar = /foo/cow)"> which is true if there is no bar which is equal to cow David XSL-List info and archive: http://www.mulberrytech.com/xsl/xsl-list
