Depends on your timeframe. The notation approach is going to be maintainable
longer if you were to use a name without an type extension, or to associate
a PUBLIC name with the notation rather than a system specific one (remember
you can use PUBLIC on its own for notations). The question you have to ask
is "Will I
still be using JScript/VBScript/... when the data comes to the end of its
referenceable life". If the answer is No or "Maybe not" then you should
stick
to notations.
