However if you just want to allow a fixed set of possibilities then <xsl:sort select=" root/person/supelogin/login[$sortering='a'] | root/person/supelogin/person[$sortering='b'] | root/address[$sortering='c'] "/> will sort on any of those three elements, depending on whetehr $sortering is a b or c.
