As a matter of history, was that part of that particular zeitgeist? Architectural forms were presented as an alternative to namespaces that provided similar expressiveness with less ugliness. At the end of the day, a lot of mistakes in the XML stack come from trying to prescribe how a given chunk of XML should be interpreted.
