Yes. And that is a good thing. The web designs have been avoiding the obvious for a decade and a half: a document is not a good GUI and a good GUI doesn't wrap a document. Putting controls inline to the text or images is an early hypertext design and had been discarded for better designs by the late 1980s. The web resulted in an anachronism. But this will come back to 'what is a resource' and that debate goes straight off the cliff every time. len -----Original Message----- From: Eric van der Vlist [mailto:vdv@d...] Sent: Friday, February 01, 2008 2:52 AM To: xml-dev@l... Subject: Are documents loosing the web? Hi, Like Norm Walsh, I do think that "HTML5 is big. Big in a lot of different ways" [1] and it took me some time to write down my thoughts about all that. This is done [2] and I am wondering if documents are not in danger of loosing the web. This is a threat for XML already in competition with JSON for Web Services and now in competition with HTML but this is not only about syntax (which wouldn't be a big deal) but between applications versus documents. What do you think? Are documents in danger of being replaced by applications on the web?
