> What is expected to be returned for /a/text() ? > Is it "xz" or "xyz"? /a/text() returns a sequece of three text nodes, which have string values of "x" "y" and "z" respectively. If you generate a single string from the sequence then you take the string value of each item, and possibly (depending on the context) separate each with a separator such as a space, and concatenate them all.
