bryan, >> Usage of XQuery for processing of xml-data in DBMS >> is practically equal to existence of second, foreign query language. br> You don't actually make an argument why a second query language br> (foreign or not) is a bad thing. Existance of two languages means breakup continuity, presence of gap between two technologies. It require additional job/time/finance at supporting two technologies in one company/project, at carrying data from rational engine to xml-engine (when data becomes less ordered, structurized and more chaotic). It's convenient to have only one technology.
