The document below gives some examples: http://www.w3.org/TR/unicode-xml this table of characters http://www.w3.org/TR/unicode-xml/#Charlist might be problematic or not a problem at all, depending on various things. (I think this verges on the theoretical though, but maybe because of western egocentrism I see it that way) I have received a couple documents at one time where it looked like they had managed to copy a BOM though, so I guess some of it is less theoretical than others.
