I thought you were refering to size of code generated rather than the
specification. However, now you introduce an interesting point. Take the
specification for language A being 100 pages in size and 85 for the
language B. Now i translate both to Spanish and the specifications gots
120 pages for language A and 135 for B. What is supposed this to mean?

be easily transformed via XSLT. Far from problem with dinamical
transformations (stuff you can do with EcmaScript-JS but not with XSLT)

can be a nightmare in XSLT 1 (specially when compared with JS-DOM or PHP
methods). I do not know of XSLT 2 new capabilities but Mike here could say
us something.

Similar thougths than above. Sometimes XSLT is better sometimes it is not.
The hype about XSLT _is_ cool _and_ a powerful way to transform XML docs
has many 'iffs' between.

Not sure if XSLT is more efficient than EcmaScript approaches. Direct
manipulation via DOM is slow but inner methods are very fast and reason
that last Firefox introduce a propietary XML inner method if i remember
now correctly.

Ok, but still your initial <q>XSLT is for transformation, not
programming</q> and your new <q>it is *not* a programming language; it's a
transformation language</q> both conflict with next

Then you would re-read this thread because i explicitely said that larger
popularity do not imply better quality.

Maybe it <q>isn't</q> a programming language as you claim and other refute?

What people consider that XSLT is a language for *any* transformation but
it <q>isn't</q> becase limited to certain -broad but incomplete- class of
transformations?

I do not know many of XQuery, but it appears that is able to do tasks
cannot be done via XSLT. At least this is said in the Wiki

But here we can see you claiming that XSLT is not a PL and one of XSLT
masters claiming the contrary.

Well, main emphasis of the author is in certain class of manipuations
cannot be done with XSLT (verbosity aside):

From the ABSTRACT of the XSLT 1.0 spec [http://www.w3.org/TR/xslt]:

I doubt since after some earlier tests i decided that was *not* the
correct tool; but that did happen many time ago...

Let me remark that the need for a full-transformation language was
XML-based is still open.

i am doing a full review of XSLt capabilities then i agree. Note that i
said in this list that XSLT has *both* strenghts and weakness. It is

Since your replies are so polarized to heavy criticism (and ad homined
