Yes, Ben.  That is why architectural forms were invented.  If you want to do
some research into a thorough coverage of that topic, read Elliot Kimber's
contributions that summarize the Hytime standard and the work done among
members of the Hytime and DSSSL standards groups.

The work was considered too hard and too complex for the web.

As soon as we specify links via a rigid vocabulary that must 
exist in the markup, we lose interoperability between different XML 
applications.

         I agree...which leads me back to my previous question -- 
does XLink cover the necessary aspects of "data about relationships" 
as it stands?
