degree of coupling
The intensional creation of a dependency.

I assume you want the verb word sense. Definitions
from GuruNet and others included below. Note that all of
these include the notion of an intensional act.

Things can be accidentally coupled but those
are usually mistakes. The term used depends
on the role/culture of the user which is why
one has codelists, thesauri, etc.

But this is getting off the topic: what is coupling? /Roger

*******************************************************************
coupling: verb

To bring or come together into a united whole: coalesce, combine, compound,
concrete, conjoin, conjugate, connect, consolidate, join, link, marry, meld,
unify, unite, wed, yoke. See assemble/disassemble.

To come or bring together in one's mind or imagination: associate, bracket,

NOTE FROM COMPUTING DICTIONARY (Includes degree of coupling):

The degree to which components depend on one another. There are two types of
coupling, "tight" and "loose". Loose coupling is desirable for good software
engineering but tight coupling may be necessary for maximum performance.
Coupling is increased when the data exchanged between components becomes
larger or more complex.

NOTE ALSO:

yoke: a connection (like a clamp or vise) between two things so they move
together
