That *is* the beef. XML itself is no more than SGML with angle 
brackets. For some reason the current world seems to be standardizing 
on angle brackets as opposed to parens. Does that mean there's been no 
beef in the last 7 years? Sometimes there is great value in simply 
bringing several communities together, and if that means giving up 
parens for angle brackets, then so be it.
