x3d conformance
When speaking generally about schemas, it is good to remember that
they have multiple uses beyond just checking an incoming or outgoing
message. The following announcement from the X3D list is an example.
Conformance suites are something one wants to have where the rendering
and behavioral fidelity aspects are as important as the validity of
the document. Note the use of XSLT and sample files as well.

I'm happy to report that a X3D Conformance Suite update is now available.
A number of scene errors have been detected and fixed thanks to improved
error checking in the X3dToVrml97.xslt conversion stylesheet included in
the X3D-Edit authoring tool. X3D DTD checks are also completed
satisfactorily. X3D Schema regression testing is forthcoming.

Currently there are 732 test scenes, most with screen-capture images or
movies documenting correct behavior. Detailed text descriptions and
comments also guide individuals testing the proper operation of browsers
or other tools. This resource was originally produced and translated by
Mike Kass and his team at U.S. National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST).

I believe that this is a great setup for the upcoming Conformance
meeting in San Francisco by interested Web3D Consortium members.
Further questions and comments welcome.

all the best, Don
