project lesson learned
For those of you who are interested in a legal/justice/court application
that uses XML:

A new electronic filing lessons learned document has been
published at:

http://e-ct-file.gsu.edu/CourtFilings/Interoperability/

Lessons Learned III is an update on Georgia's Juvenile and
Child Support electronic court filing projects. Live
filings began in June 2002. From January 2003 to August
2003, approximately 600 juvenile filings have been filed
from both the Douglas County Sheriffs Office and the
Douglasville Police Department.

The lesson learned document includes screen shots of
applications used for the filing process. The website
includes an example XML Juvenile Form 90 Complaint.

You will need a password to access the documents:

http://e-ct-file.gsu.edu/Password/

The lessons learned document is dedicated to Judge David
Emerson and Dr. Mohammed Shaikh. Judge Emersion is a Judge
in Douglas County Superior Court and recently Executive
Director of Georgia Courts Automation Commission.

Dr. Mohammed Shaikh is CEO of E-Filing.com (www.e-
filing.com). E-Filing.com has supported the Juvenile and
Child Support Electronic Filing Projects with software and
technical support for two years free of charge in order to
show proof-of-concept for electronic filing and use of XML
technology and standards.

Without Judge Emerson's and Dr. Shaikh's continued vision,
leadership, and support, electronic court filing and court
automation would not be so advanced in Georgia and this
document could not have been written.

Special thanks to Judge Peggy Walker and all of the many
Contributors listed in the lessons learned document,
without whom these projects would not have been possible.

Regards,

Winchel "Todd" Vincent III
