RE: Symbol Grounding and Running Code: Is XML Really Extensib
From: Dare Obasanjo [mailto:dareo@m...] >Your position seems to be about sharing object models so that various >XML application languages can be extended by vendors. Close. It is so they can be extended reliably and warranted for the extension where the remainder of the model is warranted by denoting conformance to the model. It enables risk to be managed not by whole, but by named parts. Note this is related to the Quality Of Service issues of web services as well. On the other hand, a completely proprietary application or system must be warranted whole. Some will choose that direction because they will claim they can manage the development, thus the risk, better. Others will choose collaborative means by which the bugs are exposed to more eyes and therefore are exposed earlier. The problem of that means is the signatory to the warranty. One assumes, in the example of open source, it will be the vendor selling the system, not the programmer or individual contributor. The matter of IP is separable but related in that it is a risk to be managed. It is the means of grounding the symbols in the warranty to the behaviors of the warranting source that should be explored. len
