IMHO, XML both provides a rich foundation for the data model behind that GUI and accessible data for people who don't want to work with a GUI. To me, the exciting part of all of this is _extensible_ semantics on top of a relatively simple fixed syntax. A lot of people, building on past practices, have interpreted "extensible" as "standardizable", whereas I'd like to see us push toward "customizable". The more you involve our mythical Frank, the more you're likely to head down the standardizable path, given IT departments' traditional views on customization. It's time for me to pack up for XML Europe. If anyone would like to discuss these issues there, maybe we could set up a lunch table or time in the bar. I'll be largely offline for the next week. -- Simon St.Laurent Ring around the content, a pocket full of brackets Errors, errors, all fall down! http://simonstl.com -- http://monasticxml.org
