Actually, Mike Kay's comment seems to illustrate a virtue of the committee 
process defined in the W3C: we are required to respond to specific 
technical comments made to our comments list. Philosophical discussion of 
committees on the XML-Dev list - well, they are clearly outside of the 
scope of what our Working Groups are responsible for.
