No it wasn't. <nikon:lens> is a syntactic shortcut for
<{urn:nikon:components:optical}lens>. The prefix doesn't tell a
processor anything about the lens element, the URI does.

If you're point is that the author sees <nikon:lens> and infers more
from that than <x1:lens>, I'm sure you're right. There's a tools
problem with presenting namespaced elements that we haven't overcome
yet, but that's not the fault of the namespace mechanism.

There are lots of annoying problems with namespaces, but if you
simultaneously want globally unique names and short identifiers, I
don't think it's an unreasonable solution.
